January 7th, 2009 The Weather Hates Me!

It’s true, the weather does indeed hate me, and I have years of life experince to back this up. So I’ll give you a couple of examples.

Last Summer holidays - admittedly, the weather was better than usual, but still not brilliant - and what happens as soon as I go back to School? Oh yes, it get’s sunny again! And, that has happened consecutively for at least three years now! I remember year Nine, first day back (I think I had English), and I remember thinking how annoyed I was that I had just come back from a miserable “Summer Holiday” to go back to School for it to be actually “Summery”.

If that’s not bad enough, then Winter really likes to annoy me. You see, I had two weeks off this year where I didn’t have to be up at the crack of dawn, I didn’t have to walk to school whilst it was still dark, and I didn’t have to be out in the cold at all really. Yet, the weather remained pretty much “okay” - the odd bit of rain here and there, but nothing major.

Then what happens this week?

We get SNOW, ICE, and me slipping all over the place looking like a right plonker for three mornings straight. It’s not on, and I’ve had enough!

I mean, it cannot be purely coincidental that these things keep happening - and I believe there is a Karma system out there - but as far as I’m aware I’m really due any bad Karma, and I’m certainly not due to fall over (I only did that recently!).

So yes, I’m not impressed, and nor am I happy about the up-coming exams. Yes, I know you’re thinking “You should be revising!”, and believe me, I’ve revised today! Plus, I think I’m on my way to do fairly well in Chemistry, at least. I do however need to make a massive improvement in Biology; I refuse to fail any of the Sciences - I’m a Science Geek (even more so than I am a Computer Geek) - so yes, Friday evening is going to be the start of five days of top-notch Revision I think!

I have to admit though, and I know I’ll regret saying this as soon as the comments come back at me, but I do wish that the Sam Learning site was better equipped for A Level revision. I mean, it had to be good for me to spend as much time as I did on it for the GCSE’s, and I’ve looked a few times in the hope that they’ll re-write the A Level section to mirror it a bit… But no.

Also, the BBC - where is your A Level Bitesize zone? Ahh, it annoys me! They have the Scottish higher education revision section, but nothing for England - and I hate to point it out, but there are vastly more people in England than there are in Scotland.

Hmm, well despite my moaning about the weather, and exams, I am happy. I’m happy because I’m back at School! It’s odd, I feel acutely more energised, and cheery when I’m at School; even though I have to wake up at half six, walk to school in the cold, do loads of homework, revise, and the numerous other things which aren’t particularly pleasant, I’m happy.

I have to say though, I listed “walking to school” as a bad thing there, which was a mistake; I quite enjoy walking to School, and I also quite like the mornings. What I like most is the freedom of it all. I wake up to a sleeping house - so I can just potter about and do whatever I like for an hour; and then I walk to school and leave me brother to walk on his own, so I can be on my own, and I can think to myself (or to be more precise converse with myself), and wake up. There is nothing better - and I mean this - nothing better than walking in the morning to wake you up. In the Summer it’s nice and cool, and the sun alerts you, in the Winter and on those frosty mornings (not the wet, icy and generally slippy ones though), the cold and absence of others (because they reside to their cars), it’s brilliant.

Thinking about it, I want to go for a walk now. The sad thing is, there is actually no where to walk to, because there are few provisions for “young” people to go to where I live. There isn’t a Cafe, or a nice place anywhere to go and relax in with a few mates, or just by myself (depending on the mood that is); and that annoys me. Because I read endlessly about Crime, and all the other negative labels attached to the “Youth of today”, and yet no one seems to offer just a basic thing such as places to go. We need to be more like the rest of Europe I think, like Spain… Where places are open late, and where no matter what time of day it is, there is a place to go and sit, and get a drink of your liking. Somewhere, where one can socialise, work, think or just take a time-out. Where is that here? Where is it in the un-appealing Borough of Sutton? No where!

Well, I’ll stop here. I shouldn’t really be posting mid-week blogs when I have neglected homework and essays to write!

I’ll update on Friday after I have done my Chemistry exam, with any luck it’ll go well!

Thanks,
Samantha.
